SEPTEMBER 2019

On 16/09/2019 in Sydney, and 19/09/2019 in Melbourne, JETRO Sydney held the event, Premium Japanese Food Showcase. 22 Japanese companies from all over Japan visited Sydney for this special occasion.

Invited business guests were able to have 1 on 1 business discussions with the companies, taste various foods, and enjoy culinary workshops with special guest chefs Mr Nick Smith, Mr Nic Wong, and Hiroshi Manaka.

8 companies from Wakayma prefecture also presented an assortment of local foods and drink in their own food showcase, featuring Japanese plum wine (ume-shu), persimmons, vinegars, seasonings.

MARCH 2019

On 1/03/2019 in Melbourne, and 4/03/2019 in Sydney, JETRO Sydney together with Austrade held the event, Japan's Startup Ecosystem & Business Opportunites - Seminar & Networking.

Guests were able to listen to numerous speakers presenting on the Japan startup ecosystem, and learn about new opportunities for Australian startups to do business and engage in innovation in Japan, and enhance linkages between the two countries.

AUGUST 2018

On 20/08/2018, JETRO Sydney held the event, Premium Japanese Food Showcase. 20 Japanese companies from all over Japan visited Sydney for this special occasion.

Invited business guests were able to have 1 on 1 business discussions with the companies, taste various food stuffs including Japanese wagyu, and enjoy a culinary workshop with special guest chefs Mr Adam Liaw and Mr Hideo Dekura.

For the first time in over 17 years, guests were able to sample authentic Japanese Wagyu in Australia, freshly imported from Japan.

JUNE 2018

On 21/06/2018, JETRO Sydney held the event, Sake Masterclass & Showcase18 Sake breweries from all over Japan visited Sydney for this special occasion.

Invited guests were able to join a sake masterclass with expert instruction on food pairings, partake in sake tasting, and have 1 on 1 business discussions with the breweries.

FEBRUARY 2018

The Japan-Australia Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) Industrial Utilisation Workshop was held in Sydney on Tuesday 6 February, and half day workshop in Melbourne on Thursday 8 February.

JETRO, in conjunction with METI (Japan’s Ministry of the Economy, Trade and Industry), Geoscience Australia, Austrade, the AJBCC, the State Government of Victoria, and the Consulate-General of Japan in Sydney and Melbourne, hosted these workshops on QZSS industrial applications and technology in both Sydney and Melbourne.

The workshop featured the latest industrial applications of this GPS related QZSS technology in autonomous driving, agriculture, maritime utilisation etc. and explore opportunities for collaboration. The workshop also discussed recent trials between Japan and Australia using this technology.

SEPTEMBER 2017

On September 18th, 2017 JETRO Sydney held the Japanese Food & Drink Showcase & Masterclass. The event was designed to provide ideas, tips and methods for effectively blending traditional Japanese ingredients in Western Cuisine.

Guests were shown how to both create authentic Japanese dishes and also how to fuse these traditional ingredients with Western dishes to create new and unique tastes and culinary experiences.

Following cooking demonstrations by our special guest chefs Darren Templeman and Hideo Dekura, guests had the chance to meet with 20 different Japanese Food & Drink producers visiting from Japan, sample their products and engage in business discussions.

The event featured a wide range of Japanese products including; wasabi, seafood, sake, beer and tea, local produce and seaweed, to processed foods including ramen, pasta, tamari soy sauces, curry and unique pastes. Among these are gluten free and organics ranges.

JANUARY 2017

On January 14th 2017, on the occasion of the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s visit to Australia, the Japan-Australia Business Dialogue was be held in Sydney, with an aim to further advance economic cooperation between the two countries. The meeting was attended by senior representatives of leading Japanese and Australian firms and featured an emphasis on innovation, with opening remarks by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment The Hon Steven Ciobo MP, and former NSW Premier Mark Baird.
During the meeting, Japanese firms explained their involvement in innovation-focused cooperation in Australia, as well their future ambitions in this respect. Australian businesses in attendance were also invited to make comments on the topics raised.
The event was organised by the Japanese Government, and coorganised by JETRO.

OCTOBER 2016

On Friday October 21st, 2016 the Fukushima Association for Promotion of Exports and Tourism to Australia held their seminar and business meeting promotion event.
  
The purpose of this event was to show the attraction of Fukushima tourism (mainly focused on ski resorts) and introduce some authentic and delicious local Fukushima food products. It was attended by guests in the tourism, hotel, food and media industry; and also those in the government sector.
  
Following the seminar, a tasting and networking session was held, where guests had a chance to talk to our 3 featured Fukushima companies and sample a number of their products.

On Wednesday September 21st, 2016 JETRO Sydney held our second Japanese Food & Ingredients Masterclass
  
The event provided chefs with ideas, tips and methods for effectively blending traditional Japanese ingredients in Western Cuisine. Our master chefs showed them how to both create authentic Japanese dishes and also how to fuse these traditional ingredients with Western dishes to create new and unique tastes and culinary experiences.
  
Following the demonstration session, a tasting and networking session was held, providing visitors a chance to taste and sample a further range of products and meet the manufacturers and distributors.

NOVEMBER 2015

During the 24-26th November 2015, JETRO Sydney hosted a booth at the 2015 AusRAIL PLUS exhibition in Melbourne. It provided Japanese rail corporation representatives the opportunity to learn about the opportunities they see for rail infrastructure in Australia.

AUGUST 2015

On Tuesday 25th August 2015, JETRO Sydney and Invest Victoria held the Japan-Victoria Business Forum for an opportunity to hear about Japan-Australia business opportunities and the offerings of regional Japan.

Attending the forum was a delegation of Japanese companies from a range of industries with an interest in the Victorian and wider Australian economy. In addition to presentations, interested businesses were given the opportunity to meet with these companies in one on one business meetings in the final session of the event.
