In 1868, first generation chief sake maker Iwami Akamine inherited the family house of Kichiemon Hirota (known as “Kicchomu-san” in local folk tales) and also operated a sake brewery from his house in Notsu town, Oita. In 1948, the name was changed to Akamine Sake Brewery Co., Ltd. We provide shochu such as “DOTTON” that is placed in long-term storage and aged in oak barrels for a whiskey-like taste, “Shoyo,” which is a sweet potato shochu, and a lineup of shochu-based liquors that use no additives, no pesticides, and only fruit grown in Usuki. All of our products have the readily approachable taste and sweetness that is characteristic of Akamine Sake Brewery.

One of Akamine' s top recommendations, this shochu has a slightly different taste than what people are used to generally drinking. The process of aging five years in a cellar draws out the naturally fruity taste and rich smell of barley shochu, and conveys the flow of time with a sensation of maturity that lingers in the air.

This barley shochu has the highest alcohol content of all Akamine products. It is slowly aged in oak barrels for many years which bestows a fruity taste and scent derived from barley, balanced against a distinctive smokey flavor from the oak barrel-aging that carries a Western sensibility. It has a well-rounded aftertaste which spreads through the mouth, and conjures up the classy atmosphere of a bar. It resonates with a slightly wild impression.

無農薬で栽培された、大分・臼杵産の果実を全て手摘みで収穫し、当蔵の本格焼酎に合わせ、臼杵久保の谷の天然水にて和水をして製造しております。 あえて甘さを控え目にし果実の風味を残したとても上品な味わいの果実リキュールです。

A special junmai-shu made with Hita Tenryo-Sui water. It uses Gohyakumangoku rice (milled to 60%), which is a cultivar well suited to brewing sake. Hita Tenryo-Sui is added before bottling to adjust the alcohol content. This sake has a refined aroma and a deep, smooth flavor.
