大分県のデザイン工芸品 Invitation to Oita craftsよつめ染布舎 YOTSUME DYE HOUSE

At YOTSUME DYE HOUSE we dye fabrics in life such as clothes, NOREN curtains and cushion covers using a traditional Japanese dyeing technique called Kata-Zome. The patterns are all original patterns designed by ourselves. We also take commissions for designing logos, packaging and textiles by using our design skills.

カラスは非常に賢い。その類まれな頭脳で繁栄し続けているカラスに尊敬の念を抱くが増え過ぎてもそれはそれで困る。古くは八咫烏など神の使者として扱われていたが都会ではゴミを荒らしたり忌み嫌われる存在である。この両極端な印象が私としては非常に魅力的で、どこか人間にも似ていて親近感さえ湧いてくる。

Crows are very smart. We hold respect for them and their intellect to keep surviving, but it occurs also a problem if they increase too much. In the past they were treated as god’s messengers like Yata-Garasu, but they are hated in the cities for messing up garbage. I find these opposing impressions very attractive, and feel relatable for being somewhat similar to humans as well.

間仕切りにご利用いただけます。ザクロは一つの実から多くの種が採れるため子孫繁栄の象徴として世界中で愛されるモチーフです。「モダンデザインの父」と呼ばれるウィリアム・モリスの壁紙にも何度も取り入れられています。よつめ染布舎、工房の前にも小さなザクロの樹があり花が咲いたあと赤い味を実らせます。種が詰まった芳醇な味を観察する度にどんな絵柄にしようかと思案します。

Can be used as space dividers. Pomegranates are popular symbols around the world for prosperity, due to it having many seeds in one fruit. It is also drawn many times in the wallpapers of William Morris, called “the father of modern design”. There is a pomegranate tree in front of the YOTSUME DYE HOUSE workshop as well, and bears red fruits after flowers bloom. Every time I examine the rich fruit full of seeds, I think about what patterns I can draw.
