Alma Therapeuticsの経口投与するカプセルの中にはパッチが内蔵されている。カプセルには胃酸耐性コーティングがなされており、胃を通過して小腸上部に到達するとそのアルカリ性環境でカプセルが溶解して中のパッチが展開される。そのパッチの表面には薬剤を含んだ多数の生体分解性のマイクロニードルが剣山状に配置されていて、それらの針が腸壁に刺さって腸上皮層を貫通し薬剤（抗体・ペプチド・酵素など）が体内に注入される。パッチは柔らかい材質でできており、腸壁から自然に剥離し、腸内容物とともに体外に排出される。

Alma Therapeutics' orally administered capsule contains an embedded patch. The capsule is coated with a gastro-resistant (enteric) layer, allowing it to pass through the stomach intact and dissolve in the alkaline environment of the upper small intestine, where the patch is deployed. The surface of the patch is covered with numerous biodegradable microneedles arranged in a bed-of-nails-like structure, each loaded with drug substances. These microneedles penetrate the intestinal epithelium and deliver the drug (such as antibodies, peptides, or enzymes) into the body. The patch is made of flexible material, detaches naturally from the intestinal wall after delivery, and is subsequently excreted from the body along with intestinal contents.
