Sir Richard Needham, Director, International and Commercial, Dyson

Dyson reached number four in the Japanese vacuum cleaner market in only two years.
"It is our third largest market, but our most profitable in the world by a streak. In three or four years it will be our most successful and important market."
"Japan is an unbelievably exciting market which is being driven by tremendous cultural change. It is fashionable, civilised, sensitive, has wonderful taste, great creativity and Japanese people are loyal and reliable consumers. It is a delightful country to do business in and if you don't do it you are either not up to it or you are mad!"
"Success in the Japanese market requires discipline, good marketing, product quality and reliability, and high manufacturing standards. These will put you in wonderful stead wherever else you are in the world."
Sir Richard Needham served in various capacities in parliament: in Northern Ireland where he was instrumental in transforming the area's economic base, and as Minister for Trade where he developed and implemented Britain's export strategy under Michael Heseltine.
