Business Environment

Oita Prefecture boasts well-balanced industrial development in various fields, including iron and steel, oil, chemistry, semiconductors, electricity, automobiles, and precision instruments. In particular, the automobile manufacturer's entry into Oita in 2004 has created clusters of more than 100 related companies. In recent years, Oita has focused on fostering next-generation industries by integrating its strengths, such as medical care, application technologies of electromagnetism, and hot-spring heat.
Also, it serves as the gateway to the east of Kyushu, serving as the base point for the high-speed transport network covering the entire Kyushu area and air and ocean routes connecting with the Kansai and Kanto regions.

Amount of subsidy:
Company with 100 or more employees: 5% of capital investment
Company with 80 to 100 employees: 5% of capital investment times the number of employees divided by 100

Company with 300 or more new employees: 3 billion yen
Company with 200 or more new employees: 2 billion yen
Company with less than 200 new employees: 1 billion yen

Many major semiconductor manufacturers have established operations in the prefecture, and local companies have entered the back-end process of semiconductors and manufacturing equipment. Consequently, the region has become one of the largest clusters of semiconductor-related industries in Japan. We have established the Oita Prefectural LSI Cluster Formation Promotion Council through industry-academia-government collaboration. We are working to develop R&D, human resources, and sales channels for domestic and overseas markets.

The food industry (food and beverages) accounts for the largest share of the manufacturing industry in Oita Prefecture in terms of both the number of business establishments and the number of employees.

In response to the increase in international students and foreign workers, Oita Prefecture works to improve the environment for realizing a symbiotic society with non-Japanese.

As the gateway to the eastern Kyushu, Oita Prefecture serves as the base of the high-speed transport network covering Kyushu and domestic and overseas air and ocean routes.
In particular, the Oita Ozai container terminal is the largest hub port in Kyushu. It provides access to ports in China and Southeast Asia as well as other parts of the world through transshipment at the world's hub ports, such as Busan and Shanghai, and Keelung, Kaohsiung, and Kobe.
