Business Expanding iPS Bio, Inc., a company developing cell therapy and drug discovery platforms based on induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology, has established a Japanese subsidiary in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture

iPS Bio is a biotechnology venture originating in Korea, founded to develop cell therapy and drug discovery platforms based on induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology. The company aims to develop treatments for Huntington’s disease, a representative intractable neurodegenerative disorder.

In 2022, iPS Bio became the first overseas recipient of clinical-grade iPSC stock provided by the CiRA Foundation of Kyoto University. The company is conducting clinical trials using GMP-grade iPSC products—produced under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards that ensure quality and manufacturing suitability for human administration—for the treatment of Huntington’s disease, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, and immune-oncology indications.

In addition, in 2024, iPS Bio was selected as one of eight advanced Korean biotech startups participating at Shonan Health Innovation Park to promote collaboration with Japanese pharmaceutical companies and biotech ventures.

To further enhance its development activities in Japan, the Company has now established a Japanese subsidiary.

In connection with the establishment of its Japanese subsidiary, iPS Bio Japan Co., Ltd., JETRO’s Investment Promotion and Business Support Center (IBSC) supported the company through assistance with subsidy applications in Kanagawa Prefecture, expert consultations concerning corporate registration, bank account opening, and the utilization of office facilities at IBSC Kanagawa.
