Founded in 2016 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Planar Motor designs, manufactures, and sells transport robot systems based on magnetic-levitation technology. Its technology enables independent, contactless control of moving carriers and is expected to be used in industries requiring highly clean production environments, such as food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. Against the backdrop of growing demand for smart manufacturing in Japan, the company established Planar Motor Japan K.K. in Kanagawa Prefecture in June 2026 as a sales base to expand its presence in the Japanese market. The company aims to provide solutions that enhance productivity and streamline manufacturing processes for customers in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, automotive, and food industries. As a pioneer in the field of magnetic-levitation transport systems, Planar Motor operates globally and is expected to contribute to improved productivity and innovation in Japan’s manufacturing sector through collaboration with Japanese companies. In establishing its Japanese operation, the JETRO Invest Japan Business Support Center (IBSC) provided support including consultations on company registration, information on real estate properties, business partner matching, coordination of meetings with local governments, and information on subsidies and incentives. Looking ahead, the company plans to open additional offices in Kansai and Nagoya within the year and hire two or more engineers. Planar Motor also intends to strengthen collaboration with Japanese companies and support the adoption of smart manufacturing technologies across a wide range of industries.
