Global Unichip Japan was established in June 2005 in Yokohama, Kanagawa, as the Japanese subsidiary of Global Unichip Corporation (GUC), an ASIC/SoC design specialist belonging to the TSMC Group, the world’s largest semiconductor foundry. Since its establishment, the company has continuously undertaken cutting‑edge semiconductor design projects. Within the GUC Group, GUC Japan has come to be positioned as a core design hub responsible for developing world-first products using leading-edge process technologies, and its importance as a semiconductor design center has steadily increased over the years.
To support this business expansion and the growing strategic role of the Japan office, GUC Japan had received support from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Invest Japan Business Support Center (IBSC) since April 2024. This support has included coordination of meetings with multiple local governments, provision of information on subsidies related to the establishment of new business sites, and assistance in organizing online exchange events with students in Japan, all aimed at facilitating further business expansion.
Although the company initially considered expanding to regional locations, it ultimately concluded that Yokohama city offers the most favorable environment for recruiting talent capable of working with advanced technologies, and therefore decided to expand its operations in the Yokohama city. With the relocation to the new office, the company is further strengthening its development capabilities in Japan and contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of the domestic semiconductor industry as well as fostering the next generation of advanced technology professionals.
