On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, VIVA TECHNOLOGY 2024, one of the world's biggest tech events, began at the venue in Porte de Versailles, Paris, France, which will last until May 25. VIVA TECHNOLOGY, in its eighth edition this year, is an event that helps accelerate innovation under the strong support of the French government by connecting startups, tech leaders, major companies, and investors who are tackling global issues. This event showcases cutting-edge technologies and services in a wide range of fields, including AI, sustainable Tech, and mobility.

On May 22, the first day of the event, the opening ceremony was held, where Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister of Japan —VivaTech’s 2024 Country of the Year, delivered a message by video. This was followed by speeches by Kazuchika Iwata, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and by Manabu Miyasaka, Vice Governor and CIO at Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Ayumi Fujimoto, President at Startup Ecosystem Association Japan and Executive Director at Plug & Play Japan, Marie Oshioka, COO at Heralbony, and Koji Sakamoto, Board of Directors at TBM and CEO at Bioworks also took the stage to have a panel discussion on Japan's startup ecosystem.

During the event, JETRO is exhibiting its Japan Pavilion at the venue, where 52 startups and 8 partner companies/organizations are participating to promote their latest technologies in AI, cleantech, mobility, entertainment, and more to a global audience. The pavilion is also showcasing open innovation through collaborations between major Japanese companies and startups.
