Momentive Performance Materials Japan LLC, which develops silicone products and advanced materials, opened Japan Innovation Center at Kanagawa Science Park (KSP) in December 2019.

Japan Innovation Center will develop a wide range of applications, including silicone-based optical and electronic equipment, high-durability paints, and personal care, and will work with its customers to test the performance of its prototypes in order to speed up and improve the effectiveness of new product development. For example, in the automotive display field, it is required to reduce the reflection of navigation and instrument panels (instrument panels on which meters are installed) to improve visibility. Japan Innovation Center will develop silicone optical bonding materials and processes that can withstand high temperatures in cars and can accommodate various product designs, and will accelerate their adoption worldwide. In electric vehicles, it is possible to evaluate the superiority of the company's products using engine control units, batteries, and the company's heat dissipation materials.

Since its founding in 1971, Toshiba Silicone Co., Ltd., the company's predecessor, has had functions such as development, manufacturing, marketing, sales, and service. And the company has begun to consider establishing a new application development center. JETRO Invest Japan Business Support Center (IBSC) arranged interviews with local governments and provided information (markets, subsidies and incentives, real estate properties) in selecting laboratories capable of handling chemical products.
