Forward Engineering GmbH , headquartered in Munich, Germany, is an automotive structural material design and engineering company. To make light weighted mass-produced automobiles, the company develops body designs and conducts engineering work using composite materials such as carbon fiber (material combining different reinforcement materials and base materials). It has conducted body development projects with OEM manufacturers, Tier1suppliers and material manufacturers in Europe and the United States.
The company received the "JEC Innovation Award 2017" hosted by JEC Group in the automotive structure category. The award recognizes innovative composite materials solutions.
The company announced a capital and business alliance with Mitsui & Co., Ltd in August 2016, and then expanded its presence in the Japanese market. Forward Engineering Japan Co., Ltd. was established in Nagoya, Aichi in June 2018 in response to the growing need for automotive light weighting in Japan. The company will provide light weighting designs and engineering services using composite materials for Japanese customers and contribute to reducing vehicle exhaust emissions. It will also support product development and marketing from the perspective of its customers—automobile manufacturers.
To assist with the establishment of the company's base in Japan, the JETRO Invest Japan Business Support Center (IBSC) provided temporary office space in Nagoya, consultations (on registration, tax and labor matters) and information on incentive programs. The IBSC also referred local service providers (tax accountant and bank) and local government officials and assisted with public relations.
