SIA Engineering Company Limited
is a Singapore company that provides maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of aircraft. In addition to repairing aircraft and parts, line maintenance and ground handling services, they also manufacture aircraft interiors, refurbishing galleys and overhauling aircraft hydraulic equipment.
The company was founded as a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines in 1992 and subsequently listed in Singapore Stock Exchange in 2000. Since its founding, it has provided services to more than 50 airline companies in Singapore. They also have expanded operations at airports in the United States, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia and Australia.
In May 2017, SIA Engineering Japan Corporation was established at Kansai International Airport in Tajiri, Osaka in order to provide Line Maintenance services to foreign airlines at Kansai International Airport. The company intends to widen their services and offerings and gradually expand their presence to other airports in Japan, offering a full suite of line maintenance services which include aircraft certification, defect rectification, technical ramp handling and cabin maintenance amongst other services.
For the establishment of its Japanese base, the JETRO Invest Japan Business Support Center (IBSC) provided temporary office space; support for procedures related to registration, visa, taxation and labor matters; assistance in recruitment of staff; referrals to offices of administrative scriveners, tax accountants and social insurance consultants and a recruitment agency. IBSC also made referrals to municipalities; arranged meetings with the Ministries and provided business-matching services.
