Interview IKEA Japan

IKEA Japan K.K., a Japanese arm of IKEA and one of the world's largest home furnishing companies, is accelerating development of new stores in Japan even after the Great East Japan Earthquake. In April 2012, IKEA is expected to open a brand-new store in Kyushu using renewable energy to contribute to an ECO-Friendly society.
JETRO had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Mikael Palmquist, President & CEO of IKEA Japan K.K..

Overview of IKEA Group

IKEA is a home furnishing company with a fully integrated supply chain, including its own industrial groups, which was founded in Sweden in 1943.
The IKEA vision to create a better everyday life for the many people is not just about offering good quality and functional furnishing products and helping enable customers to live more sustainable lives.
In FY2010, IKEA had 127,000 co-workers and opened 12 new stores in 8 countries. In August 2010, it had a total of 280 stores in 26 countries. Sales increased to 23.1 billion EURO in FY2010, an increase of 7.7% compared to the previous year.
