    Roquette is a global leader in plant-based ingredients (corn, wheat, potato, pea, tapioca), a pioneer of plant proteins and a leading provider of pharmaceutical excipients. We also have the world's biggest pea protein facility and we produce a range of pea proteins under the brand name of Nutralys. We aspire to be the world's leader in pea proteins.
    One of the key segments we want to focus at for plant proteins is meat alternatives. This plant-based meat market in Asia is still niche, but emerging. Consumer interest is high however the main barriers for consumption are taste and texture predominantly, and color as secondary. Consumers expect the sensory experience to be similar to real meat however, products in the market still have this gap which manufacturers are not yet able to solve.
    The challenge: To find a technical solution to improve the taste, texture and color to be able to meet consumer expectations.
  • SUGAR MANAGEMENT
    Roquette is a global leader in plant-based ingredients, a pioneer of plant proteins and a leading provider of pharmaceutical excipients. We aim to offer the best plant-based ingredients to respond to consumer's health and nutrition needs and lifestyle.
    Here in APAC, more than 2/3 of the consumers are concerned about health issues of obesity and diabetes. Consumers are trying to make better food choices such as staying away from sugary products especially sugary drinks and therefore, product claims with Low/reduced/no sugar added claims influences their purchase decisions.
    The challenge: To find solutions to address this consumer need in the beverage category.
  • SUSTAINABILITY
    Sustainability is a key issue in our world today and there is a need to adress this from many different job functions. One of the key area to address sustainabiliy is in the laboratory where we are generating a lot of waste from food products and consumables. Today, in the food lab and pharma lab, we are generating alot of waste from one time use plastics, containers, pipettes, tasting cups, and also power usage to keep the lap running. The pandemic casued by Covid-19 also pushed the hygeine practices in the lab to even higher levels generating alot of one tie use consumables like disposable lab coats and various sanitizing items. There need to be a review of best lab practives to reduce the waste generation and alternative ways of working to achieve sustainability goals. The challenge: To find solutions and implement changes in our practice/process to be more sustainable
Collaboration Needs
  • PROTEIN
    How to optimize extrusion process using non-soy plant proteins (preferably pea), to improve taste, texture, and color for alternative meat applications.
  • SUGAR MANAGEMENT
    How to modify sugar/starch to change its profile to slow release, that can be applied in beverages (and dairy drinks/yogurt), for low/no/reduced sugar claims.
  • SUSTAINABILITY
    To address ways of working in the various laboratories in Roquette (Food, Pharma, Biopharma) and to propose ways to reduce waste, reduce, and recycle. To also look at reducing power and water consumptions. To develop a metric to measure waste generation and how much each improved action can save on carbon footprint and/or reduction in waste.
