In recent years JETRO has been holding a number of Invitation Programs. The programs aim to promote business between Japan and the rest of the world, in particular promote export of Japanese products.

For the program, JETRO secures a certain amount of floor space within an international trade show or exhibition in Japan and names it “JETRO ZONE”. JETRO uses its global network of overseas branch offices to invite 20-30 companies from Oceania, Asia, U.S. and Europe. Companies that are successful in their application to participate in the invitation program have the privilege of attending pre-arranged business meetings with Japanese companies and attend a networking function in addition to joining factory site inspections and so on.

In the past JETRO has already held this program three times; once in the food industry in Kyushu, once in gift and home wares industry in Osaka, and once in the gift industry in Tokyo. In each of these programs an Australian company was selected to participate and all three companies enjoyed many business meetings which focused on high quality “COOL JAPAN” products.

In addition, we are going to hold another two programs in early 2012. One will be the Tokyo International Gift Show 2012 in February, followed by FOODEX JAPAN 2012 in March. An Australian company ‘Cotton Linen’ will participate in the February program, while ‘Oriental Merchant’ will participate in the March program. We expect these two companies will have many fruitful business meetings and enjoy many positive business outcomes. This year, JETRO is focusing on export promotion of products from the north-east Tohoku region which suffered damaged from the disasters in March.

In the above-mentioned Tokyo program, we were able to introduce products made locally in the Tohoku region to foreign companies and offer a tour of the disaster-affected Tohoku region. This specialized feature will also be offered in the coming two programs in the forms of business matching with Tohoku companies and so on. The export promotion of Japanese product, and primarily Tohoku products, is still an important policy of the Japanese government. In order to uphold this momentum, JETRO will endeavor to source Australian companies looking for high-quality Japanese products.
