JETRO Oceania Welcomes New Managing Director

Aug 27, 2007

JETRO is pleased to introduce our new Managing Director, Mr. Nobuyuki Koyama. Having just arrived in Sydney, Mr. Koyama is keen to look at ways of increasing trade relations between Australia and Japan.

Mr. Koyama has considerable experience in trade promotion with JETRO, and was based for four years in JETRO's Chicago office, and a further three years in JETRO's New York office as Director of Trade and Investment Promotion. Upon returning to Japan, Mr. Koyama was head of JETRO's Import Promotion Activities division, before being promoted to the head of JETRO’s International Public Relations division. He was JETRO's Performance Evaluation Director for four years, before accepting his new position as Managing Director of JETRO Oceania.

"Japan has long been Australia’s most important export market, while Australia is one of Japan’s largest sources of imports overall, as well as being one of Japan’s most important markets for a number of indispensable commodities. With this, it is clear that economic relations between Australia and Japan are closer than ever," said Mr. Koyama.

"Given the strong relationship that Australia and Japan share, I am honoured and delighted to be given the opportunity to actively work in strengthening economic ties further between Australia and Japan."

Mr. Koyama is keen on increasing direct investment from Australia to Japan, and is hoping to encourage more Australian companies to consider the Japanese market. "As the World's second-largest economy, the Japanese economy can offer new and exciting opportunities for your business," he said.

"Also, JETRO can offer a wide range of free support services for companies interested in setting up in Japan, and I look forward to hearing from you if you are interested in the Japanese market."
