Notification on the Establishment of JETRO’s Human Rights Policy Working Committee

Jan 23, 2026

JETRO’s vision is to “A prosperous and peaceful world achieved through connectedness.” Leveraging our domestic and international networks, we promote trade and investment and conduct research and analysis. These activities are deeply connected to global supply chains, and we recognize that respecting human rights is a critical issue in carrying out these activities.
Regarding respect for human rights in economic activities, the United Nations Human Rights Council unanimously endorsed the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights in 2011. The Government of Japan has also formulated the National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights (2020–2025) and the Guidelines on Respecting Human Rights in Responsible Supply Chains (2022), among other measures, reflecting growing expectations for human rights respect both internationally and domestically. Furthermore, the G7 Trade Ministers’ Statement in 2023 reaffirmed the importance of respecting human rights in corporate activities and global supply chains.
Under these circumstances, and in line with Japan’s trade policy that pursues transparent legal frameworks and a fair competitive environment, JETRO has been conducting research and analysis, and providing information on “Business and Human Rights.” In addition, it is essential for JETRO to ensure respect for human rights in its own activities and to encourage responsible conduct among its business partners and the companies it supports.
To advance the formulation of our human rights policy, we established the Human Rights Policy Working Committee. Through dialogue with stakeholders, the committee will clarify JETRO’s fundamental stance and build a solid foundation for our initiatives.
