JETRO Hosts Japan–Indonesia Business Forum in Conjunction with Indonesian President Prabowo’s Visit to Japan

March 2026

JETRO, in cooperation with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) and other partners, hosted the Japan–Indonesia Business Forum on March 30, 2026, at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, in conjunction with the official visit to Japan by H.E. Mr. Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia. The event brought together more than 300 participants from the business communities and governments of Japan and Indonesia, providing a platform for discussions aimed at further expanding bilateral economic relations.

During the forum, President Prabowo, along with senior government officials and business leaders from both countries, delivered remarks highlighting the long-nurtured cooperative relations between Japan and Indonesia and expressing expectations for enhancing industrial collaboration and promoting private-sector investment. President Prabowo specifically called on Japanese companies to expand mid- to long-term partnerships and investments in Indonesia by being “true partners” who share technology, capital, and expertise, and added that he would personally receive reports on business-related issues and work toward their resolution.

The forum also introduced several Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) symbolizing burgeoning Japan-Indonesia public-private collaborations that underscore new developments in economic partnerships. JETRO presented its own MOU with Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund, Danantara, demonstrating its commitment to supporting closer bilateral business ties by promoting investment and improving the business environment.

In the latter half, panel discussions delved into value co-creation potential in areas of mutual strength for both countries, including natural resources, industry, and global supply chains. Participants reaffirmed the importance of coordinated public–private efforts to address medium- to long-term challenges such as energy transition and industrial upgrading.

JETRO will continue to actively support Japanese and Indonesian companies in creating new business opportunities through dialogues and networking initiatives such as the present one.
