”India-Japan Economic Forum” Held with Indian PM Modi in Attendance

On August 29 at the Imperial Hotel Tokyo, JETRO co-hosted the “India-Japan Economic Forum” with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Keidanren (Japan Business Federation), the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Embassy of India and the Confederation of Indian Industry.

This forum included from Japan, guests such as H.E. Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, H.E. Mr. MUTO Yoji, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), H.E. Mr. ASAO Keiichiro, Minister of the Environment, Mr. ISHIGURO Norihiko, Chairman and CEO, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), and from India, H.E. Mr. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, and was attended by roughly 700 participants.

In their guest addresses, both prime ministers mentioned the potential for expansion in Japan-Indian economic relations and signaled their strong commitment towards strengthening cooperation going forward.

Moreover, Chairman Ishiguro welcomed Prime Ministers Ishiba and Modi and explained about the as many as 170 memorandums of understanding that had been signed between private companies from both countries.

In the panel discussions that followed, discussions were held on Japan-India cooperation from the perspective of “Talent” “Cutting-Edge Fields” and “Science and Technology,” turning the venue into a platform for both governments and private companies to gather useful information.
