Szolnok is located in the Hungarian Great Plain by the Tisza River, 100 km south-east of Budapest. It is the county seat of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County.

Szolnok is a hub for water, air, road and rail transport, the bridge at Szolnok had been the only steady crossing point over the Tisza River for a long time.

The municipal government founded the Szolnok Industrial Park in 1999. It enjoys a very favorable location and is easily accessible by road and rail alike. A public railway line surrounds the estate and a loading track inside connects it to a freight yard and a Logistics Centre. River transport on the Tisza is possible for ships between 650 and 1,000 tons.

Air transport can also be handled on a 200 hectare grass sports airfield suited for small aircraft and on a nearby air force base capable to accommodate larger passenger planes as well.

The Industrial Park is only a 15-minute drive from the town centre and it is within a comfortable distance for the production not disturbing the town’s inhabitants.

The most significant companies operating in the industrial park are Eagle Ottawa (USA), Segura (Spain) and Stadler (Switzerland) railway carriage manufacturer.

The Logistics Centre has adequate storage facilities, is able to serve the companies operating in the industrial park and is connected to road and rail transport.

Presently, the town on the banks of the Tisza River is the centre for railway engineering and repair and employs thousands of people.

Naturally, there are numerous small and medium-size enterprises operating on other districts of the town, which are also important to the municipal government. The service and commercial sector is also strong.
