Asian Investment Cost Survey
The investment cost survey is carried out every year by overseas offices of the Japan External Trade Organization. The first survey was conducted in 1980 and so far 19 surveys have been conducted. The purpose of the survey is to compare investment-related costs in major cities of Asia providing effective guideline for Japanese investors in order to choose the right investment destination. Policy makers of relevant countries will also find this survey useful to upgrade investment climate for their countries attracting more and more investors.
The cost components considered in this survey include:
-Wages: Wages for workers, engineers, intermediate administrative staff, store personnel, legally specified minimum wage, bonus payment sums, social welfare defrayal rate.
-Land price/office rent: Price of purchase of industrial estates, rent of industrial estates, office rent, apartment rent.
-Communication costs: Charge of telephone installation, Basic telephone charge, international call charge, mobile phone subscription charge, basic call charge for mobile phone, Internet connection charge.
-Electricity: Electricity for industrial use, electricity for ordinary use.
-Water: Water for industrial use, water for ordinary use.
-Gas: Gas bill for industrial use, gas bill for ordinary use.
-Transportation: Container transportation from a surveyed country to Japan and to a foreign country, price of gasoline.
-Exchange rate: Between local currency and US dollar.
-Taxation: CIT, PIT, VAT, Tax on interest remittance to Japan,…
In Vietnam, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh and Da Nang are three cities chosen for the survey.

Japanese Affiliated Firms Survey
The purpose of this survey is to understand current business performance of Japanese-affiliated firms operating in Asia and Ocean and to feed back the results of the survey to the participating companies and other companies.
The survey target Japanese-affiliated firms (i.e. companies with over 10% of Japanese direct/indirect investment). Firms are emailed an URL that direct them to the survey form, which they are asked to complete online. The use of paper-based forms is also applied.
In the questionnaires, firms will be asked around their business outlook, imports/exports, procurement of raw materials and parts, business problems, competitiveness, intellectual property right infringement, and so on.

Conferences on East Asian Economic Integration
Conferences on East Asian economic Integration region were held by JETRO and Center for Strategic International Studies on 02nd ~ 03rd March 2011 in Washington, D.C and Chicago respectively, where Participants discussed on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and integrating Asian economies, its challenges, and the importance of participation by the US. Survey on Japan's Competitive Strengths in the world
The survey conducted by JETRO in early this year pointed out that the competitiveness of Japan has been gradually risen since 2006 and ranked in the top 10 list in the world. The report of its survey is attached for your further information.
