[JETRO San Francisco Webinar] Business Opportunities in Japan's AgTech Industry

Aug 26, 2016

Japan’s agriculture industry is rapidly approaching a point of change. In the last decade, Japan’s food self-sufficiency has hovered near 40%, making it the lowest-ranked nation for food self-sufficiency among the 12 developed countries polled in an international comparison. In addition, Japan’s domestic agriculture industry is suffering from a labor shortage, with the majority of Japanese farmers being over the age of 70. These developments have led Japan to find a 21st century solution to its domestic agriculture problems in the form of AgTech.

This webinar will serve as an introductory course to Japan’s current AgTech scene. It will highlight the current Japanese AgTech landscape and its business prospects, provide updates on recent developments in agricultural policy, and offer suggestions about how to enter the Japanese market as an AgTech company.

The Business Opportunities in Japan's AgTech Industry webinar will run Thursday, September 1, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. PDT. The webinar is online and accessible from any internet-connected device.

This online webinar will be held in English and will include both slides and a verbal delivery. The webinar is limited to the first 100 attendees, so early sign up is strongly recommended.

Through this webinar, attendees will:

  2. Learn recent developments in the AgTech business space, including the reform of Agricultural Cooperatives (noh-kyo) and government programs for “smart agriculture”
