Overview of JETRO's 'Invest in Japan' Services

Business Consultations

JETRO’s free business consultation service offers insight on the legal system, cost estimation, market regulations, taxation, business practices, human resources, and subsidy applications that come with setting up a business in Japan.

Business owners and executives can schedule a one-on-one meeting with the Business Development Team from their local JETRO office. The Business Development Team will help owners and executives identify not only the how-tos of entering the Japanese market (including incorporation), but also regional and national opportunities that might be otherwise untapped. This includes but is not limited to: submitting deregulation requests, government agency meetings, national subsidy programs, and city/prefecture subsidy programs.

Additionally, JETRO also pairs each company with a Business Development Advisor both in the U.S. and in Japan. These points of contact allow businesses to maintain a highly-individualized JETRO experience while utilizing JETRO's various services.

Market & Subsidy Programs Information

JETRO market-entry services include market analysis and trend reports, access to our platform of professional service providers, and a personal business advisor to help assist your business endeavors.

JETRO provides monthly trade and investment statistics. JETRO also provides regular Market Reports on various industries; these reports identify current market trends, regulation changes, and guidelines to legal import of products to Japan. Reports are available in English, French, and Japanese.

JETRO also connects business owners with its comprehensive list of local service providers. This directory can be used to locate professional business services (such as legal, accountants, and translators), schools, medical facilities, and other third-party professionals. All services listed specifically cater to foreign businesses and individuals living in Japan.

Additionally, JETRO can provide personalized market research on a company's specific industry needs. Companies that utilize JETRO resources also reap the benefits of JETRO's close governmental ties; JETRO can provide detailed insight on legal developments in industries, including new regulation or deregulation policies.

Legal Regulation Updates

JETRO clients can access our regulations hotline, which provides the latest information on business regulations and legal policies. JETRO's government roots and 50+ year history give it extensive access to government regulation agencies and offices that private consultation groups cannot match.

This close relationship with the Japanese government, on both a national and local scale, gives JETRO un-matched ability to connect businesses with the necessary officials or agencies needed to request regulatory reform. JETRO can also submit deregulation requests to regulatory authorities on behalf of foreign companies.

Business Matching Services

JETRO can also help connect businesses with our business-matching program. This service is ideal for companies seeking to partner with pre-established Japanese companies in order to expand their business in the Japan market.

The Trade Tie-up Promotion Program (TTPP), JETRO's business matching site, provides extensive support to businesses seeking a local business partner for export and import transactions. Investors who register with the database can view other company profiles, send and receive inquiries, and use “automatic matching” to quickly find qualified business partners.

Temporary Office Space

For businesses ready to take the next step, JETRO provides temporary office space in six major cities across Japan (Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe, and Fukuoka). All offices are fully equipped and include conference room services, shared reception services, and PC rooms with printers and scanners.

Office space can be utilized for 50 days free; after the first 50 days, businesses can request to extend their use of JETRO's office space for a subsidized rent rate.

Unlike other agencies, JETRO office space does not demand all fifty days be used sequentially; business can use their 50 days over a period of several months multiple JETRO offices. This allows businesses to take advantage of exploring the markets of different cities in Japan without being specifically tied to one.

To learn more about temporary office space, please contact your regional JETRO office.
