1st Japanese SME Caravan to the UAE

In connection with the “UAE-Japan SME Platform” created under the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the UAE Ministry of Economy (MOE) and the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) in January 2017 in supporting and promoting Japanese SME investment across the UAE, JETRO welcomed the first Japanese SME delegation to the UAE on 12th – 14th December 2017.

The delegation was comprised of 13 Japanese companies from various sectors – agriculture, fishery, healthcare, F&B, information technology, chemical, cosmetics and auto industry.

 

On its first day, the delegation attended the “UAE Business Environment Seminar” in Dubai supported by the UAE Ministry of Economy. Business environment and opportunities available across UAE was being presented by various government entities such as Fujairah Free Zone Authority; Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah Chamber of Commerce and Industries. Some businessmen from different emirates were being invited, and they have shared their success stories in putting up business in UAE. After the seminar, the delegation explored the emirate of Sharjah - visited Sharjah Airport International Free Zone (SAIF Zone), fish and vegetable market and the Central Souq.

The following day, 13th December, the delegation attended a business roundtable forum organized by Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq). Key industry sectors, investment climate, opportunities and incentives in doing business in Sharjah were being discussed during the forum by various authorities of Sharjah. On the other hand, Japanese companies made presentations that showcased their products and technology. After the event, Shurooq also organized a cultural tour for the delegation at the Mleiha Archaeological Centre.

 

On 14th December, third day, the delegation went to Jebel Ali Free Zone and Dubai Design District (d3) where they were able to see the actual facilities and business operations inside a free zone and business district in Dubai. The event was successful. The delegation received positive feedback from potential business partners and JETRO will further follow up to ensure tangible output. To continue this great initiatives, JETRO will be hosting another batches of Japanese SME delegations to the UAE during the months of December 2018 and February 2019.
