International Interaction

JETRO fosters two-way communication between Japan and the rest of the world and works to improve awareness and understanding of the Japanese economy, market and business practices. With this objective in mind, JETRO conducts such activities as special awareness programmes, speaker-dispatching programmes and seminars in and out of Japan. In addition, printed materials, together with videotapes are produced as a tool to publicize information about Japan.

Under the invitation programme, the Bangkok office invites local opinion leaders from various sectors such as government, academic and industry to Japan to attend international symposiums such as Prospects of Regional Economic Integration in Asia in March 2001, a forum for sharing perspectives on global economic collaboration. JETRO Bangkok has also invited business executives to join the Japan Study Programme for International Executives (JASPIE) to deepen their understanding of Japan through their own experience.

Apart from the invitation programme, the office sends speakers to seminars held by Thai educational institutes, trade associations and other governmental entities to provide information on Japanese economy and business practices. On 16 August 2000, JETRO Bangkok was invited to make presentation on "Towards the Co-Prosperity of the Auto Industry in Thailand" at the Annual Economic Review Forum organized by the Bangkok Post newspaper. The Bangkok office also organizes seminars, and panel discussion to provide better understanding of the changing Japanese economy, trade and business practices such as "How to Support SMEs to Achieve Economic Recovery", "Toward Sustainable Growth in the Global Economy"

Moreover, it tries to broaden awareness about Japan on the part of the general population. The office, for example circulates JETRO publications on topics such as " Japanese Markets," "Focus Japan," and "White Paper on Foreign Direct Investment." Videotapes about Japan are also of service to both Thai government and private sector entities.

JETRO launched the "JETRO Business Japanese Proficiency Test (JETRO Test)", a test of non-native speakers' proficiency in listening, reading, and speaking the Japanese language as a practical, standardized means of measuring and comparing skills in using the Japanese language for business communication.

In Bangkok, the Technology Promotion Association (Thailand-Japan) conducts the test each year for JETRO Bangkok.
