GetYourGuide was founded in Zurich, Switzerland in 2009 and is a booking platform for travel experiences. Contracting with local suppliers around the world, the company developed its online platform, also called "GetYourGuide," which connects travelers with local tours, attractions and activities around the world. Travelers can use the one-stop service to search by region and purpose and to make reservations, and to date more than 25 million tours have been booked by travelers from over 150 nationalities. A major advantage of the company is the large number of skip-the-line tickets it sells for popular tourist spots in Europe. In addition to its headquarter in Berlin, then company maintains local offices in 14 additional countries around the world.

GetYourGuide established a distribution entity in Tokyo in September 2018 with the aim of reinforcing activities to develop new customers in Japan, a country enjoying an increase in foreign tourists.

To assist with the establishment of the company’s base in Japan, the JETRO Invest Japan Business Support Center (IBSC) provided temporary office space, market information and referral to local service providers (a bank and service office).
