South Africa and Japan Sign MoC Before G20 Summit

On the 20th of November 2025, the Japanese Ambassador in South Africa, Mr. Fumio Shimizu and the Minister of Trade Industry, and Competition, together with the Minister of Electricity signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to further strength the trade relationship between Japan and South Africa. South African and Japan have enjoyed a longstanding economic and political relationship for many decades.
The newly signed MOC is an extension of this trade relationship as it evolves with changing market requirements. The two countries are partnering in decarbonisation sector. This is a testament to both government's commitment regarding sustainable energy production and the expansion towards the green energy agenda. Renewable energy and a just energy transition was an important part of the G20 conversation.
