Japanese Business mission explores Namibia as an investment destination

In a statement JETRO Johannesburg Executive Director, Mr Hiroyuki Nemoto said, “as a sub- Saharan regional office we play a central role in promoting and facilitating the development of a mutually beneficial economic relationship between the sub-Saharan African region and Japan, we believe Namibia has great potential and we would like to partner with it to realize it.”

 

In November last year the government of Namibia organized an investment seminar under the theme “Invest in Namibia” where it appealed to international investors to look into business opportunities in the country.

 

The CCIJ and JETRO have responded to this call by sending a Japanese business mission to Namibia this February. The mission included CCIJ member companies who optimistically looked to Namibia to explore new opportunities and expand business partnerships.

The mission successfully visited Walvis Bay on 21 and 22 February where it was briefed on the International Logistics Hub Masterplan and it also observed the development of the expansion of the port facilities which is said to bring new economic opportunities and contribute to the continued prosperity of Namibia.  

During the visit the mission also met with a number of Namibian ministers and other governmental representatives where further discussions of investment into the country were held. They also attended a seminar on sustainable development of mineral resources for the Namibian mining sector.

In his speech, Chairman of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industries in South Africa, Mr. Takashi Yao said that he sincerely hoped “that this mission contributes to the deepening of mutual understanding and the development of economic and trade relations between our two countries – Namibia and Japan.”
