Activities Contributing to regional economies in the age of globalization
JETRO contributes to local economies by helping them establish direct connections overseas, providing comprehensive support that creates tangible results. To do this, it fully leverages its vast networks with domestic and foreign governments, municipalities, and companies, as well as its experience and know-how from helping domestic companies expand abroad and encouraging foreign companies to invest in Japan.
Assisting local authorities in inviting foreign companies.
JETRO plays a major role in the development of Japan’s economy, including the revitalization of local economies, by attracting foreign companies through the introduction of new business models and technologies, complementary domestic industries, and improving the quality of people's lives. While working with local authorities, we use our domestic and international networks, and strive to attract foreign businesses to local regions.
Supporting Exports of Japanese Agricultural, Forestry, and Fishery Products and Food
We connect Japanese agricultural, forestry, and fishery products and food―primarily distinctively regional products―to the rest of the world. Working with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) and relevant local authorities, we build a framework to expand exports. With a particular focus on projects supporting business development, JETRO offers a variety of support services including: providing information on the import systems of other countries and markets, creating opportunities to participate in trade fairs and business meetings, dissemination of information about foreign buyers, and providing individual support from advisors.
Supporting the development of “the earning power of local regions.”
JETRO operates the “Regional Contribution Project," which helps businesses expand on a regional, rather than company-by-company, basis. When carrying out this project in each region, we consider the ways that they can build capacity for overseas expansion, such as using the resources of multiple regions to generate synergistic effects through agricultural, commercial, and industrial collaborations, or helping them formulate a strategy for entering overseas markets and providing them with the tools to accentuate the attractiveness of their products.
Using our domestic and international networks to help local companies active overseas.
When it comes to JETRO’s efforts to contribute to local economies, JETRO Osaka and domestic offices stand on the front lines. Making full use of JETRO’s rich overseas networks, it serves as a link between regional Japan and overseas.
For companies that are taking on the challenge of their first business overseas or are experiencing difficulties with their current overseas operations, it may be vexing to figure out where to start, or where the problems lie.We provide support to Japanese companies, particularly SMEs, engaged in foreign business, taking full advantage of our domestic and international networks that consist of more than 70 overseas offices and about 50 offices in Japan, including our Tokyo Headquarters, JETRO Osaka, IDE-JETRO and other domestic offices.
