Workshop on New Japanese Energy Strategy

Jun 04, 2014

JETRO London is holding a "Workshop on New Japanese Energy Strategy" on Monday 23rd of June 2014 at Embassy of Japan. This workshop is organised by Embassy of Japan in the UK and co-hosted by JETRO London, JOGMEC, the Japan Society and JBIC. Please join us to take this opportunity to learn a new Strategic Energy Plan, as well as business opportunities in Japan.

After a series of nationwide debates following the Great Earthquake and Fukushima accident, the Government of Japan has finally adopted the new Strategic Energy Plan in April. This plan gives the direction of Japan’s energy policy for the next 20 years including the maximisation of energy efficiency potential, reconstruction of nuclear policy, expansion of renewable energy, clean use of fossil fuels, electricity market liberalisation, and deployment of new technologies. The impact of Japan’s new strategy on the energy market will be felt not only in Asia but also across the world, and will have many implications regarding Japan’s action on climate change. Investors may find new business opportunities in Japan as the country begins a new journey in energy policy.

Mr. Toshikazu Okuya, Director of Energy Supply and Demand Policy at METI has played a primary role in formulating the energy strategy, and will present his perspective on Japanese energy policy, followed by comments by prominent speakers from the UK and Japanese business and academic sectors.
