A fully automatic lapping machine for dies for fly-eye lenses, Lap-up Machine, is presented below.

** Product Features

An LCD projector employs a fly-eye lens (plenoptic lens), which is an array of numerous single spherical lenses, for the purpose of attaining a uniform luminous intensity over the screen.
The fly-eye lens is manufactured by die-forming processing using a material, such as glass. During the processing, lens performance can be greatly affected by the surface properties and conditions of the die. Moreover, after repeated forming works, the surface of the die is deteriorated due to thermal effects, etc. Accordingly, the die must be lapped periodically.
In the earlier manufacturing processes, skilled technicians manually lapped dies of complex shapes. As a result, not only did lapping the lens die take about 30 hours, but random variations in the final lens products could not be disregarded.

In order to cope with these production-related problems, we have developed equipment that automatically laps individual lenses. This equipment consists of a 5-axis controlled table to which the lens die is fixed, and a 3-axis controlled rotary tool. Furthermore, by additionally developing a unique diamond slurry, we have successfully established precision lapping processing.
