V-cube provides secure Cloud communication solutions to support businesses spread across the globe

With its Cloud-based, cross-platform services, V-cube, Inc. stands as Japan’s market leader in web conferencing. Its multifaceted web conferencing services are so secure and reliable they’re used not only for long-distance business, training and education, but also enable online loan consultation and remote teller services.

V-cube President and CEO Naoaki Mashita was a Keio University student when he founded the company in 1998. “I was looking for a part-time job I could do that was also interesting, and I fell into homepage development,” he says.

Over the years, the company’s focus shifted to mobile applications, and Mashita developed software—similar to Google Docs—that allows people in separate locations to contribute to a common document. While Keio University holds the patent, V-cube remains licensed to use the technology, and the company was successful enough to open a branch office in Los Angeles, California, by 2003.

Simplicity & Security in the Cloud

Communicating with team members across the Pacific presented challenges, however. “We wanted a video conferencing system, but we couldn’t afford it,” Mashita recalls. “So we thought, well, we’ll just create our own.”

Building on his Keio-patented technology, within a year Mashita had developed a system that was so effective he realized it could be marketed as a product in itself. It has been the company’s primary focus since 2006.

V-cube’s Cloud-based web conferencing services don’t need to be downloaded and work seamlessly across multiple platforms—simplicity that saves time and money. The product range now includes variants targeted to meetings, seminars, sales and support, as well as translation and document-sharing capabilities.

“Generally, our clients are mid- to large-sized enterprises,” Mashita says. “Companies like that have several key requirements: security, stability and support. For example, a company might need 10 different locations connected securely, or 50. We offer support 24/7, 365 days a year, a security guarantee, and stability.”

V-cube’s support and security services have gained the trust of government offices, educational services, medical groups and financial institutions, standing as the Japanese market leader in web conferencing from 2007 to the most recent results in 2015.

Adaptable Solutions across Asia

V-cube is skilled at molding its services to fit a company or even a country. It has regional teams comprised of international and local staff, and solutions even for areas where network connections are patchy, with seven further offices in China and Southeast Asia. With its interface available in Japanese, English, simplified and traditional Chinese, French, Thai and Indonesian, V-cube is committed to further expansion in Asia, particularly in non-English-speaking areas, as it elects to sidestep the hyper-competitive U.S. market.

The company is keen to work with finance-related companies and government agencies, as well as educational institutions and corporations with multiple, distant offices. “We’d like to become Asia’s No. 1 web conferencing service provider,” Mashita says. And with his company’s track record, he just might get there.
