Conclusion of MOU with Shaanxi Provincial People's Government

April 2018

On April 17, JETRO Chairman and CEO Hiroyuki Ishige had a dialogue with Governor Liu Guozhong of the People's Government of Shaanxi Province in Xian, China. While Shaanxi Province has been drawing attention as a starting point of the land-based route planned through China’s One Belt One Road Initiative announced in the autumn of 2013, accurate information on the economy and business environment in the province is not easily available in Japan.

Chairman Ishige proposed the following framework of joint projects in order to enhance economic and business exchange between the province and Japan to Governor Liu, who was appointed this January:

  1. Disseminating information on the advantages of doing business in Shaanxi Province
  2. Assisting Japanese companies in trade and investment in the province
  3. Assisting Shaanxi companies in trade and investment for Japan
  4. Strengthening collaboration in the fields of healthcare and elderly care

Mr. Ishige handed a printed copy of JETRO's digital magazine* "Shaanxi Style" to Governor Liu as an example of how JETRO disseminates information related to the province. He also informed the governor of requests by Japanese companies in Shaanxi for greater promotion in Japan of the attractiveness of the province and its investment environment, and emphasized the importance of further enhancing the relationship between the provincial government and JETRO.

Dialogue with Governor Liu

After the dialogue, they signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) regarding cooperation between the Shaanxi provincial government and JETRO.

JETRO will take advantage of the MOU to further expand collaboration with the province in order to contribute to two-way economic and industrial promotion between Shaanxi and Japan.
