June 2017

On June 5, JETRO jointly held the Vietnam Investment Conference in Tokyo with the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment on the occasion of a visit to Japan by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

In the keynote address, Prime Minister Phuc introduced the attractiveness of the Vietnamese investment environment and his vision toward economic integration and development of his country’s industries, while also making a passionate call to Japanese companies to expand business in Vietnam. Following that, a panel discussion was held between Prime Minister Phuc, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh and representatives from Japanese companies in terms of deregulation in the service industry and the business environment in Vietnam as well as policies on industry and trade. During the discussion, Prime Minister Phuc expressed his strong commitment toward improving various administrative procedures which were pointed out as obstacles in doing business in Vietnam and promoting mega-FTAs.

This conference, which was the largest-ever seminar held in Japan under the theme of investment into Vietnam, was joined by 1,500 people from both countries. In a business network meeting, which was held in tandem with the conference, lively business talks were engaged in by Vietnamese and Japanese business people. The conference ended with heightened expectations for expanded business between the two countries.

Taking these facts into consideration, JETRO will further devote itself to expanding investment and strengthening economic ties between Vietnam and Japan.
