Conclusion of MOU for cooperation between Tianjin Municipal People's Government and JETRO

On May 15, JETRO concluded a memorandum of understanding with the Tianjin Municipal People's Government in China regarding economic cooperation.

Upon the conclusion of the MOU, Executive Vice President Koji Yonetani of JETRO had a dialogue with Vice Mayor Zhao Haishan of Tianjin. Vice Mayor Zhao praised the contribution by Japanese companies to his city, particularly in the manufacturing field, and expressed his hope to expand cooperation with Japan by strengthening the relationship with JETRO in the fields of the environment and service, such as the elderly care industry in which Japan has long experience, as well as in that of conventional trade of products. Expressing his agreement with Vice Mayor Zhao’s sentiment, Executive Vice President Yonetani reiterated that the MOU would facilitate expansion of cooperative relations in the service field, including the elderly care industry.

The following points were agreed upon in the MOU between the City of Tianjin and JETRO:

  • Enhancing business exchange between companies in Tianjin and Japan, and facilitating investment focusing on the following fields:
    1. High-end manufacturing, including eco-friendly manufacturing, smart manufacturing and manufacturing of equipment
    2. Modern services such as the elderly needs industry and cross-border e-commerce
    3. Industrial fields to be developed based on policies of China’s Tianjin Pilot Free Trade Zone
    4. Science and technology-oriented companies, research and development institutes and SMEs with outstanding capabilities
  • Applying intellectual property rights and proactively promoting measures to protect them
  • Further sophisticating the business environment of both Tianjin and Japan

On the same day as the signing, JETRO Beijing jointly held a “cross-border e-commerce business matching seminar" with the Tianjin Commission of Commerce as a part of a series of cooperative activities based on the MOU between the City of Tianjin and JETRO, which was joined by approximately 160 business people both from China and Japan. The business matching meeting following the seminar was joined by 20 companies who engaged in 145 lively business talks.

JETRO will take advantage of the MOU to bolster efforts in expanding two-way trade and investment as well as economic ties in cooperation with the City of Tianjin.
