Meeting with Liaoning Governor and Dalian Party Secretary

On April 7, JETRO Chairman and CEO Hiroyuki Ishige met with Chen Qiufa, Governor of Liaoning, in Shenyang and Tang Jun, Secretary of the Dalian Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, in Dalian.

At the meeting with Governor Qiufa, in order to contribute to the industrial restructuring which Liaoning Province has been undertaking, Chairman Ishige suggested an action plan by JETRO consisting of the following four activities:

  1. Expanding foreign direct investment (FDI) into Japan
  2. Enhancing collaboration in the fields of elderly care and healthcare
  3. Promoting recycling-oriented agriculture
  4. Boosting exchanges among new emerging industries

In response to this suggestion, Governor Qiufa expressed his appreciation toward the plan in terms of fostering and developing new emerging industries. Further, he particularly placed high hopes on the cooperation between China and Japan in the fields of life-care and healthcare.

At the meeting with Secretary Tang, Chairman Ishige also suggested the following four activities by JETRO:

  1. Expanding foreign direct investment (FDI) into Japan
  2. Enhancing collaboration in the fields of elderly care and healthcare
  3. Promoting recycling-oriented agriculture
  4. Encouraging business by taking advantage of a pilot cross-border e-commerce zone

Secretary Tang acknowledged the contribution of JETRO to Dalian and highly praised the proposed action plan. He also expressed expectancy for close collaboration with JETRO.

At both meetings in China, Chairman Ishige stressed the need for measures and support by the Chinese government in restructuring the business model of local companies in order to more easily attract new companies into Liaoning and Dalian.

Both Governor Qiufa and Secretary Tang made remarks that they would be intensively involved in facilitating investment by Japanese companies and business reform.
