December 2015

On December 18, during the visit of Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs Tedros Adhanom to Japan, JETRO concluded a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ethiopian Government concerning the establishment of a JETRO office in Addis Ababa.

The decision to establish the JETRO office was conveyed by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn during his stay in New York for attending the United Nations General Assembly in September.

Prior to the MOU signing, JETRO Chairman and CEO Hiroyuki Ishige said “I believe that the establishment of our office in your country will further contribute to enhancing business exchange between Ethiopia and Japan, in particular attracting Japanese companies into Ethiopia.” Minister Tedros responded to him by pledging the utmost assistance of the Ethiopian Government to help JETRO Addis Ababa steadily support business of his country with Japan.
