Japan-France Partnership Seminar: The Key to Success (Paris)
On December 17, 2013, JETRO held the Japan-France Partnership Seminar in cooperation with the French Agency for International Business Development (UBIFRANCE) and the Invest in France Agency (AFII). The event was held in accordance with a memorandum of understanding meant to strengthen economic ties and signed between the three organizations during a trip to Japan by French President François Hollande in June of the same year.
At the opening of the seminar Louis Schweitzer, Special Representative of the French Minister of Foreign Affairs for France-Japan Partnership, and Japanese Ambassador to France Yoichi Suzuki each delivered messages on the relationship between both countries and the potential shape partnership could take in the future. Satoshi Miyamoto, President of JETRO; Christophe Lecourtier, CEO of UBIFRANCE; and David Appia, Ambassador for International Investment and Chairman and CEO of AFII, each declared their respective organizations would work together toward expanding two-way investment.
In addition, presentations were given by various companies on successful examples of partnership between Japan and France under three themes: trade, investment and R&D. Discussion also took place on the importance of building relationships of mutual trust-even if they require time to accomplish-given barriers between the two countries such as distance and language.
