The information below is as of November 2017.
Shizuoka lies midway between the Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka metropolitan areas, and it was among the first to offer opening of the Tokaido Shinkansen and Tomei Expressway.
The Shin-Tomei Expressway opened in April 2012. If the Chubu-Odan Expressway is completed, the road network will become even more convenient.
With Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport, Shimizu Port (an international hub port t), and Tagonoura and Omaezaki ports (designated ports), Shizuoka is well located and offers a diverse transportation network composed of land, maritime, and airborne routes.
Land
The Tomei Expressway which connects Japan from east to west runs across Shizuoka. It takes only two hours to get to Tokyo and Nagoya and four hours to Osaka, allowing effective land transportation. Moreover, the New Tomei Expressway opened in April 2012, promising even more convenient access in the future.
Air
Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport offers domestic flights to Hokkaido, Okinawa, Fukuoka, and Kagoshima, as well as international flights to South Korea, China, and Taiwan. The airport is a ten-minute drive from the Tomei Expressway interchange.
Sea
Shizuoka has Shimizu Port (international hub port) and Omaezaki Port (designated port). Shimizu Port maintains 27 regular container routes and was the first port in Japan to adopt a 24-hour cargo-handling system. The port is also directly connected to major arterial routes in Japan, such as the Tomei Expressway, making it a key business hub.
Railway
If you take the Shinkansen from Shizuoka Station, you can get to Tokyo or Nagoya in just one hour and to Osaka in two hours. Also, there are six Shinkansen stations within Shizuoka Prefecture which makes transportation in the prefecture very convenient.
