Regional Profile

Strength of the region's industries and economy

Oita Prefecture shows well-balanced business development in a variety of industries, including iron and steel, oil, chemistry, semiconductors, electricity, automobiles and precision instruments. In particular, triggered by an automobile manufacturer’s establishment of a business base in 2004, over 100 companies have established business bases in the prefecture and formed an industrial cluster there. In recent years, the prefecture has been engaging in fostering next-generation industries by integrating its characteristic strong points, e.g., medical care, application technologies of electromagnetism, and hot-spring heat.
