Strength of the region's industries and economy

Sumi (Japanese ink), ink brush, Japanese paper, medicine, lacquer crafts, somen (Japanese thin wheat noodles), sake, chasen (bamboo whisk), disposable chopsticks, and akahada-yaki (pottery produced in Nara City and Yamato Koriyama City)—the industries of Nara Prefecture are characterized by their long history, which date back to Edo Era and Nara Era. Today, local industries such as pharmacy, socks, wood products, plastic, fur, leather, sandals, and sporting goods are active. Moreover, a wide range of industries including machinery, food, metal, rubber, and electronic components/devices, are distributed in broad areas like Showa Industrial Park in Yamatokoriyama City and industrial parks in Gojo City, which has Techno Park.

  • Subsidies Program for Promoting Accumulation and Vitalization of Companies: For companies constructing plants, research facilities, distribution outposts, and headquarters buildings (up to 1 billion yen for medium-scale business locations)
  • Subsidy Program for Assisting Securing of Personnel by Companies in Nara Prefecture: For assisting in part of the expenditure needed to secure human resources for companies in the prefecture, e.g., costs of recruiting advertisement and employment agencies.
  • Preferential taxation: Reduction of the enterprise tax for companies that have established plants, research institutes or accommodations in the prefecture under certain requirements (up to 300 million yen); exemption of the real property acquisition taxes for companies concerning plant locations

Outline of Incentives (Requirements etc.)

The Reconstruction Promotion Subsidy for Affected Areas (additional amount) is in place since 2013 in addition to the Subsidy to Promote Accumulation of Company Vitality.
When locating in the southern area (Gojo City and Yoshino County) and in the eastern area (Uda City, Yamazoe Village, Soni Village, and Mitsue Village) (target period: business designated by the end of 2014 and in operation till the end of 2015),
the following subsidies are provided:

  • Investment amount is 500 million yen or more: additional amount is 10 million yen.
  • Investment amount is 1 billion yen or more: additional amount is 20 million yen.
