The government, industry and academia in Oita and Miyazaki Prefectures collaborated to formulate the “Eastern Kyushu Medical Valley Initiative” and it was designated as the special zone for regional revitalization.
This initiative is based on the development of following four bases: “R&D Base”, “Medical Technology Training Base”, “Blood and Blood Vessel-related Medicine Base”, and “Medical Equipment Industry Base.”

Miyazaki Prefecture is one of the leading agricultural prefectures and is also blessed with water resources. Taking advantage on it, agglomeration of food industries such as meat-processing plants, beverage plants, and shochu (Japanese alcohol) plants. While public interest in “food safety and security” is rising, the “food”-related industrial cluster that straddles the primary (manufacturing), secondary (food processing), and tertiary (distribution, sales)industries is expected to play a far more important role as the basic industry of the prefecture.
