Strength of the region's industries and economy
Matsuyama City is a prefectural capital and continues to develop as a political, economic, and cultural center. Its urban form has a strong characteristic as a consumption city whose industrial sector shows 0.2% primary industry of agriculture, forestry, and fishery, 13% secondary manufacturing industry, and 86% tertiary industry of retail, lodging, and food and beverages.
As the result of preparing fiber-optic network ahead of the rest of the country, Matsuyama City succeeded in inviting information-related companies such as call centers and Cybozu, Inc. to set up the offices in the city. This city is also active in accumulating manufacturers such as Miura Co., Ltd. and NPC Inc., which has the largest market share in the world in solar cell production equipment.
