Strength of the region's industries and economy

AIST Fukushima Renewable Energy Institute was inaugurated in 2014 in the Koriyama West Industrial Park 2, Koriyama City, aiming to conduct globally-advanced research projects in the field of renewable energy. Fukushima Medical Device Development Support Center was inaugurated in 2016 in Tomita Town, Koriyama City. In addition, as seen in the completion of construction work of the Koriyama West Industrial Park 1 scheduled in March 2017, the city will aim at further development of industrial clusters of industries in the fields of renewable energy and medical equipment.

Available incentives

Koriyama City will subsidize up to 30% of expenditure on land acquisition in Park 1 and other sites in the city for companies that intend to establish business in the city. It also provides other subsidy programs involving fixed assets and employment and those for business by leasing land or offices.
Moreover, Fukushima Prefecture provides subsidy programs targeting foreign-affiliated companies concerning expenditure on rent or utility charges of facilities, commission fees for management consultation services, recruiting and other activities. The prefecture as well as the national government also provide a variety of programs, e.g., subsidies and tax breaks.

- 100,000 yen per new regular employee; up to 20 million yen
Note: Companies must continue to employ at least 10 new employees (as for SMEs, 5 employees) for over 1 year.

- Have invested at least 300 million yen in fixed assets in total (as for SMEs, at least 100 million yen)
- Have operated business for 5 or less years since the conclusion of the land transfer contract (as for new establishment)

Subsidy for business operation
- 20% of expenditure on land acquisition
Note: 30% as for companies in the predetermined sectors: renewable energy, medical care and robots) (for 3 years as the limit; up to 100 million yen)

Subsidy for new location
- Subsidizing the total amount of the fixed assets tax and the city planning tax for 5 years (as for expansion or relocation of facilities, 3 years); up to 20 million yen per fiscal year
