The Ishikawa information services industry ranks fourth nationally in per capita number of business facilities, sixth in the number of employees, and sixth in sales in 2012. The prefecture has one of the largest concentrations of world-leading IT-related companies, including I-O Data (PC peripherals; has one of the largest shares domestically of HDD, USB memory, etc.), PFU (has the largest share in the world market for industrial image scanners), EIZO Corporation (globally renowned for medical high resolution displays, PC displays, etc.).

Ishikawa has a number of technical higher education institutions, such as the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST),and the Kanazawa Institute of Technology (KIT), and produces an abundance of talented engineers. In particular, JAIST attracts an outstanding researchers, such as global authorities in the field of home networks, and it actively pursues joint research projects with companies. KIT boasts a number of patents it has obtained and is among the top engineering universities in this sense in Japan; its graduates are highly prized by the companies that hire them.
