Strength of the region's industries and economy

Hiroshima City boasts industrial clusters of advanced technologies in manufacturing industries as seen in world-class manufacturers in the city, e.g., Mazda in the automobile sector, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Japan Steel Works in the machinery industry. A population of 1.19 million in the city brings about a large consumer market, expanding its commercial area to the peripheral areas, placing the Chugoku and Shikoku districts at the core, and providing companies developing business in the city with ample business opportunities. In the northwest part of the city, a new, multifunctional industrial park for business, academia and housing, called “Hiroshima Seifu-Shinto,” is being developed, and attracting many manufacturing, distribution, and commercial companies to form clusters.

Hiroshima City established the Business Location Promotion Subsidy Program targeting all areas of the city in order to vitalize its economy through facilitating the accumulation of industries and creating job opportunities. This scheme aims to help companies that intend to develop business in the city reduce their initial investment costs.
