Living environment

Hamamatsu is located almost midway between Tokyo and Osaka, enjoying warm climate and pleasant natural surroundings even in winter. The number of foreign residents in Hamamatsu city is 22,260 as of July 1, 2017, and represent 2.76% of the total population of 806,767. The number of Brazilian nationals is the biggest of all the cities in Japan, and many foreign residents from Asian countries live in the city, advancing the multinational culture.
Hamamatsu continues to develop a multi-cultural society, not only supporting the foreign residents, but aiming to take advantage of the diversity of citizens, based on the two facilities, Hamamatsu Multicultural Center and Hamamatsu Foreign Residents Study Support Center.

International schools

In elementary and junior high schools in Hamamatsu city, bilingual support staff enhance the acceptance of foreign students by supporting them to adjust to the life and study styles in Japan. In the high school in Hamamatsu city, foreign students learn in international classes until they join the usual classes at the second year.
Additionally, there are 4 schools for foreigners whose curriculums are certified by the Brazilian and Peruvian governments; they play an important role in the education of foreign students.
