Gunma Prefecture is a “manufacturing prefecture” where manufacturing accounts for more than 30% of the gross product of the prefecture. In addition to major companies including SUBARU, there are also many small and medium-sized enterprises with a high level of fundamental technology capability in terms of mold designing/manufacturing and metal working. Industries related to transportation equipment account for about 40% of the shipment value of products made in the prefecture. |

In order to take advantage of the potential of the concentration of industries, such as transport equipment manufacturing in Tochigi and Gunma prefectures, northern Ibaraki Precture and northern Saitama Prefecture, the creation of a network with institutions supporting the industry will be promoted. This network can be utilized to understand company needs and to provide comprehensive and effective implementation of relevant measures for ambitious and technologically sophisticated companies. In doing so, a world-class concentration of companies is expected. |

In order to take advantage of the potential for attracting transportation machinery and other related industries in Tochigi, Gunma, the northern part of Ibaraki, and the northern part of Saitama, the prefecture will promote the establishment of a network with organizations that support the industry; understand the needs of companies through this promotion; conduct a comprehensive and effective implementation of the related policies for enthusiastic companies with technological capacities. Through these efforts, the prefecture will strive for the development of a cluster of companies that can be recognized globally. Whilst having a university and hospitals with leading medical-/pharmaceutical-related center of excellence (COEs) and companies with some of the best biotechnologies in the world, Gunma is making an industry-academy-government effort towards establishment of a base for the advanced medical industry.

Institutions of higher education such as Gunma University and Maebashi Institute of Technology, R&D bases such as Takasaki Advanced Radiation Research Institute of National Institutes for Quantum and Radiological Science and Technology and Gunma Industrial Technology Center, and medical facilities such as Gunma University Hospital and the four prefectural hospitals are partnering in collaboration between engineering and medicine.
