Regional Profile

Strength of the region's industries and economy

Fukushima Prefecture is located 200 km from the Tokyo metropolitan area. By a rapid transportation network, outstanding airport and sea ports, skilled and persistent labor force, Fukushima has been attracting a large number of companies across various industries. Fukushima has a larger ratio of secondary industry in all industries compared to the national average. The value of Fukushima's manufactured goods shipments is ranked highest in the Tohoku region, and it accounts for one-third of the total value of the region.
In cooperation with industry, academia, and the government, Fukushima has been establishing a base for medical devices industries as the “Fukushima model.” The prefecture also endeavors to attract and develop businesses in the renewable energy and robot industry.
